Vera Wang Prepares For Battle

May 9th, 2007 by dd

Vera Wang is about to launch a fashion line to be called Simply Vera - and the company founded by the other Vera, famous for the silk scarves Marilyn Monroe once wore, isn’t happy. “Vera Neumann began designing textiles in 1946, and the ‘Vera’ trademark was first used in 1947. So Vera Wang is a little late to the party - the name is taken,” a rep for The Vera Company told Page Six. The rep said Wang had even gone as far as using her high-powered, stockbroker hubby as an attack dog. “Her husband, Arthur Becker, called our company and said, ‘I have $5 billion with Kohl’s behind me, and we’re going to take on any opposition. I’m putting The Vera Company on notice,” the rep said. The case is now in court, with Vera Wang insisting it’s not infringing on Vera’s trademark because her fashions will be sold exclusively at Kohl’s. Vera fashions are sold at more upmarket stores, like Bloomingdale’s. A rep for Vera Wang did not return repeated calls. But the Vera mouthpiece insisted: “Vera Wang is not Vera. She might as well call herself Picasso.” [NYPost]

Sandra Oh Lands on Worst Dressed List

Mr. Blackwell’s 47th annual “Worst Dressed” list was released Tuesday. Blackwell, no longer an active designer but still an acid-tongued critic of celebrity fashion, aimed his poison pen at Hollywood

And Sandra Oh made the list! Oh finds herself in some pretty famous company, squeaking in at number nine right behind Tori Spelling and in front of Meryl Streep.

“Drowning in beads, bangles and prehistoric bows, she’s layered lunacy — from toes to nose!” exclaimed Blackwell.

He could have very well been talking about the ruffled violet Vera Wang frock Oh wore to the Emmy Awards in August, which she accessorized with a number of silver-hued necklaces. Oh herself reportedly joked the look was a little like “the last of the Romanoffs with a little Run-DMC,” while E! Fashion Police dubbed it “ghetto chic,” and not in a good way.
