Tiger Woods, 31, Woods introduced his and wife Elin’s 1-week-old daughter Sam Alexis Woods on his official website, www.tigerwoods.com.
“We’re still getting settled at home and it’s important to be there for my family,” Tiger said in a personal statement last week. “I look forward to playing next year. Both are healthy and happy. I can’t describe how wonderful it is to be a father. This is something I dreamed about and I’m enjoying every minute. It’s a good thing I don’t need much sleep.”

Tiger Woods had double cause to celebrate on Saturday when he announced on his 31st birthday that his wife Elin will give birth to their first child next year.
“We are expecting our first child this summer,” the American world number one said on his official Web site.
“Obviously, we couldn’t be happier and our families are thrilled. I have always wanted to be a dad. I just wish my father could be around to share the experience.”
Woods’s father Earl died in early May this year after a long battle with cancer.
His son took a nine-week break from golf to deal with his father’s illness and subsequent death before ending the 2006 PGA Tour with eight victories, including two majors.
Despite his remarkable golfing form in a season he rates as his best ever, Woods described the year overall as one of loss.
“Certainly (this was) the most difficult season I’ve ever had,” he said before winning the Target World Challenge in California earlier this month, his final tournament of the year.
“You don’t ever want to lose a parent, your father, your mentor, your best friend.
“When that day happens … you think you can handle it and all of a sudden it happens and you find out it affects you much deeper than you thought previously.” [Y! News]

Teen Golfing sensation Michelle Wie has been accepted into Stanford University and is planning on entering the school Tiger Woods attended.
The 17-year-old said Tuesday she would enroll in the prestigious college next year, dispelling any talk she would concentrate exclusively on her professional golf career once she finished high school in Hawaii.
“No one really believed me,” Wie said from Orlando, Florida, where she is working with swing coach David Leadbetter. “Now that I got into Stanford … it was one of my dreams, and I want to go through with it. I definitely want to go there and really try to graduate.”
Wie has been mixing school and tour golf since she played three U.S. LPGA Tour events at age 12. She turned professional in October 2005 and earned close to $20 million this year from endorsements, earnings and appearance money overseas.
Wie, who has yet to win on the American women’s tour, had a grandfather, an aunt and an uncle that also attended Stanford.
Told that Tiger Woods lasted only two years at Stanford before he turned pro, she said, “Hopefully, I’ll last a little longer.” [Source]

The complex will be designed by Tiger Woods Design and developed by Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holding.
It is scheduled for completion in late 2009 over an area of 25 million square feet at Dubailand, the region’s largest tourism and leisure project.

Tiger Woods is ending his self imposed sabbatical in Shanghai this week at Asia’s richest golf tournament, HSBC Champions. Having not played a competitive round since October 1 when he won the World Golf Championship outside London, Tiger will be wrapping up the 2006 season with a two-week stay in Asia. His next stops include Japan’s Dunlop Phoenix and Hawaii’s Grand Slam of Golf before heading back to California.
On a side note, did you know that he’s on the cusp of being golf’s first billionaire player? Varying accounts have his on and off the field earnings totaling the billion dollar mark by 2010-2013. Woods’ recent announcement that he’ll be designing golf courses through his Tiger Woods Design should help accelerate those estimates. Oh and he’s only 30…
