Upfronts is a TV industry term that basically refers to the little song and dance television studios do for advertisers. It’s when ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and the other networks bring out their most popular stars to wow corporate America and ad agencies as well as to introduce new shows for the upcoming fall season.
Now all you have to do is don a black Prada suit, put on some shades, order a half caff, skim latte poolside at the Roosevelt and you too can be a swanky TV exec.
Here are some pics of Lucy Liu promoting the new Darren Star show Cashmere Mafia and Sandra Oh supporting Grey’s Anatomy. DaDump knows that Sandra is neither an ‘A’ nor a ‘C’ but CBK just didn’t work well with the witty title I was going for.

Headed to the chap-el and I’m gon-na get… ditched? That’s not the way the song goes!
Apparently someone forgot to tell the writers of popular US drama, Grey’s Anatomy.
Fellow celebrity blog, The Bosh reports that in the finale, Isaiah’s character Dr. Preston Burke is passed over for the hospitals chief of surgery job and storms out of his wedding to Sandra Oh’s Dr. Cristina Yang. It’s a clear sign that Isaiah is getting the boot in real life from the show.
T.R. Knight’s character Dr. George O’Malley finds that he failed his final exam to become a doctor – and decides not to repeat his internship.
According to Enquirer’s insider, “Isaiah’s exit isn’t surprising, and T. R. never really got over the gay slur incident and was very disappointed with the way it was. Producers begged him to stay and they’ve left the door open for his return. But, right now, he has no intention of coming back.”
This doesn’t have that much to do with Sandra Oh but it’s still interesting, donchathink? [The Bosh]

Sandra Oh is a mighty fine actress. In the thespian sense. She’s always turned in great performances on TV (Grey’s) and film (Sideways) and the fact that she made the cover of a major women’s magazine that didn’t involve skimpy outfits, souped up ‘rice rockets’ or the word ‘oriental’ is a major achievement!
…thing is, Sandra isn’t, let’s just say, a traditional beauty. She definitely elicits lots of comments relating to her looks and if my ‘Comments’ section ever worked, DD would be keen on hearing your thoughts. You can always email me at dailydumpling@gmail.com. Who doesn’t love email!

Who’s laughing now? Remember when your mother told you to study hard so that you can become a lawyer or a doctor. Well had Mama told the Dumpling exactly why, as in $$$, then it would have made a little more sense. DD didn’t quite see the appeal of sticking my hand in someone’s chest or being surrounded by criminals (DD also watched a lot of TV growing up).
Well looks like Sandra Oh is the good Korean girl who listened to her mom after all.
As is with most television series, cast members for US TV series are signed on for multi-year deals with room for salary raises over the years. The actors are contracted to three more seasons on “Grey’s Anatomy” and most of the cast is expected to sign new deals by the end of the month.
Ellen Pompeo will bring home around $200K and Sandra Oh will clock in at six figures with a paycheck in the $125K area…. PER EPISODE!!

Giorgio Armani held his annual pre-Oscar fashion show at supermarket billionaire Ron Burkle’s Beverly Hills Estate. Among the attendees were Zhang Ziyi and Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh. Nice contrast, donchathink?

Sandra Oh at the People’s Choice Awards
Mr. Blackwell’s 47th annual “Worst Dressed” list was released Tuesday. Blackwell, no longer an active designer but still an acid-tongued critic of celebrity fashion, aimed his poison pen at Hollywood
And Sandra Oh made the list! Oh finds herself in some pretty famous company, squeaking in at number nine right behind Tori Spelling and in front of Meryl Streep.
“Drowning in beads, bangles and prehistoric bows, she’s layered lunacy — from toes to nose!” exclaimed Blackwell.
He could have very well been talking about the ruffled violet Vera Wang frock Oh wore to the Emmy Awards in August, which she accessorized with a number of silver-hued necklaces. Oh herself reportedly joked the look was a little like “the last of the Romanoffs with a little Run-DMC,” while E! Fashion Police dubbed it “ghetto chic,” and not in a good way.

Rick Yune, Karl Yune, Will Yun Lee and Daniel Dae Kim
The Korean pop-culture wave has swept Asia. Now what? The challenges to Korean stars continue, and their next target is the heart of the international movie market, Hollywood. Park Joong-hoon, Lee Byung-heon and Jung Jun-ho already have their engines revving. With their dreams seeming to come into focus, the group of top stars may even be seen in Hollywood this year.
The U.S. magazine Variety recently said of the actor, “Of all Korea’s top-ranked male stars, Lee Byung-heon may be best placed to break through internationally.” As a K-Wave star with a huge following in Japan, Lee is also already linguistically prepared for the task. In TV dramas and films he has already shown off his near-perfect command of English on various occasions.
Among actresses, Kim Yun-jin is already on the list of global stars. With her outstanding English skills, she lent her charm to the TV series “Lost” and continues to embellish the covers of international magazines. The hopeful predict that calls from Hollywood are just a matter of time.
Most actors of Korean heritage are so-called 1.5 generation or second generation, so they speak perfect English. But they had their share of struggles, including a high cultural wall in Hollywood. But while the first generation had to be satisfied with extra or minor parts, recently actors of Korean heritage have appeared in starring roles, drawing up their own American dream. [Chosun]

Yes, it’s official. Asia and Asians are in again. This awards season, Hollywood is taking notice of some outstanding performances of or relating to Japan. The biggest accolades were showered on Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima, the second accompaniment to his Iwo Jima saga, which received a Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director nomination.
Since its opening, Rinko Kikuchi has been getting non-stop praise for her portrayal as a deaf teen in Babel and was officially recognized again with a Best Supporting Actress nod. Kudos to this newcomer who we’ll be hearing about for quite some time.
Another actor whose buzz factor has been receiving non-stop coverage since his debut on Heroes is Masi Oka whose character in Heroes has been the talk of the US television season. This “zero to Hiro” fan favorite received a Best Supporting Role in a Series.
Hollywood’s earlier infatuation with all things Chinese, including Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi, Chow Yun Fat and Zhang Yimou, seems to have waned for now. Most surprisingly was the omission of Korean-Canadian, Sandra Oh, a Golden Globe winner last year for her role in Grey’s Anatomy.
Oh how fickle fleeting infatuation can be in LaLa Land…
