Proceeds from the world premiere of the Disney megahit benefited the Make-A-Wish International and its Foundation of America. The film will hit theaters in the US this Friday, May 25.

What’s up with the pigeon toed look, Masi?

Heroes star Masi Oka and Nate Torrence are set to reprise their characters for a direct-to-DVD spinoff of the upcoming Steve Carell theatrical version of Get Smart.
Get Smarter: Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control is being positioned as parallel content to the feature film, and will be released domestically 10 days after Get Smart.
The story will at times cross over with the feature film and the direct-to-DVD movie might even recycle scenes from the feature. Oka will play Bruce, a techie at spy agency CONTROL, while Torrence is Lloyd, a geeky analyst.
Oka also has booked a role as a realtor on writer/director Steve Conrad’s feature Quebec, underscoring how in-demand the breakout star from NBC’s Heroes has become on his hiatus.

“Love and laughter are two themes that are universal. I’m ready for a meaningful relationship versus the not-so-meaningful relationships I’ve had in the past.”
— Heroes star Masi Oka, on his romantic side
Now that he’s full fledged celebrity on TV’s number one new show in the US, Masi will find it much easier to avoid “not-so-meaningful relationships” in Hollywood…. NOT!

Heroes’ Hiro, Masi Oka, recently revealed he’s on the prowl for his soulmate.
“I’ve been going on dates a lot, [looking for] my soulmate here and there,” Oka told People magazine at the NAACP Image Awards nominee luncheon in Beverly Hills. “I make it a point to get out and just meet people. Hopefully I’ll find someone I can share the rest of my life with.”
It sounds like Oka won’t settle ’til he finds the one. “I’m kind of playing the field,” he said. “There are some wonderful people I’ve met, that I hang out with. I’m just taking my time and hanging out, getting to meet a lot of great people.”[InsideEOnline]
The Dude’s already a Hero. With his superpowers, all he has to say is, “Hey babe, I’ll make time stop for you and take you places you’ve never been before….”. Deal sealed. End of story.

It’s awards season again in the States and although there are too many to name, the two most famous are probably the Golden Globes and, of course, the Academy Awards; the former often being a barometer of success for the latter.
Anyway as I periodically check to see who the winners are, I’ll try to post some pics of some of your favorite Asian and Asian American Film and TV stars. Let me know if you have any requests (of anyone)…

It’s been quite a whirlwind year for Masi Oka, the combustible, endearing, instant star of the American hit series, Heroes. His easy-going demeanor and non-conventional Hollywood background has made him one of the more popular figures in Tinseltown.
Recently, he chatted with E! Entertainment about the future of his character, Hiro. There aren’t really any spoilers so no need to fret if you’re a fanatic about the show. As a teaser, there’s talk of filial piety tension, possible smoochy smoochy, and something about a dinosaur. Want more? Read the full interview after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, it’s official. Asia and Asians are in again. This awards season, Hollywood is taking notice of some outstanding performances of or relating to Japan. The biggest accolades were showered on Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima, the second accompaniment to his Iwo Jima saga, which received a Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director nomination.
Since its opening, Rinko Kikuchi has been getting non-stop praise for her portrayal as a deaf teen in Babel and was officially recognized again with a Best Supporting Actress nod. Kudos to this newcomer who we’ll be hearing about for quite some time.
Another actor whose buzz factor has been receiving non-stop coverage since his debut on Heroes is Masi Oka whose character in Heroes has been the talk of the US television season. This “zero to Hiro” fan favorite received a Best Supporting Role in a Series.
Hollywood’s earlier infatuation with all things Chinese, including Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi, Chow Yun Fat and Zhang Yimou, seems to have waned for now. Most surprisingly was the omission of Korean-Canadian, Sandra Oh, a Golden Globe winner last year for her role in Grey’s Anatomy.
Oh how fickle fleeting infatuation can be in LaLa Land…
