Lisa Ling Marries Her ‘Doctor McDreamy’

May 29th, 2007 by dd

Lisa Ling, correspondent for the Oprah Winfrey Show and National Geographic Channel, married Chicago-based doctor Paul Song on Saturday evening in Los Angeles.

The bride walked down the aisle in a stunning, bright red Vivienne Tam dress in front of 550 family and friends including her journalism mentor Connie Chung and actresses Kelly Hu and Diane Farr.

Even preparing for the Asian-themed ceremony proved memorable. “My husband [marketing executive and Song friend Seung Chung] went shopping in Chinatown,” says Farr , “We came with a whole crew so he bought 10 outfits – everything from pajamas to silkies. Then we had a dress-up party at my house.”

Ling, 33, and Song, 41, got engaged over the holidays after he surprised her by flying their families to Chicago for the proposal which took place in a private dining room of Charlie Trotter’s restaurant.

Lisa Ling Courts Danger to Get Inside View on North Korea

March 7th, 2007 by dd

I’m like a serious reporter, y’all. The Oscars Red Carpet is totally news worthy!

National Geographic Channel
reporter and Oprah Winfrey correspondent/ guest and former View co-host Lisa Ling recently discussed her new special, Explorer: Inside North Korea. The show documents her undercover travels inside the totalitarian state, ruled by mysterious dic tator Kim Jong-il under a cloak of absolute secrecy. Ling was in North Korea with Dr. Sanduk Ruit, an eye surgeon allowed in to perform cataract surgery on 1,000 people (in under 10 days). Ling posed as his medical coordinator.

“They are forbidden from know ing anything about the outside world,” Ling says of the North Koreans, who don’t have cell phones or Internet access. “In America we choose not to know - even though we have access to everything.” When the NYPost mentioned to Ling that she was lucky, since there was a good chance she wouldn’t be recognized in a culture with no access to the outside world, she responded, “there were a couple of Chinese tourists there . . . who actually recognized me. I literally said, ‘No!’ and just ran away. That was the one time I was the most afraid.”

The Dumpling wants to know, which of these facts is hardest to believe?

a) she was in real danger in a country ruled by a midget with a ‘fro
b) some guy did 1,000 eye surgeries in 10 days
c) someone actually recognized Lisa Ling (probably mistook her for Zhang Ziyi)
d) she’s a real reporter… hello? she was on the View with Star Jones!

Lisa Ling Creates Awkward TV Moment of the Night

February 27th, 2007 by dd

lisaling

The Dumpling commends Lisa Ling for leaving The View to pursue “harder” news over at National Geographic. She shows up every so on Oprah to tell the world about the plights of the underreported and the less fortunate. You sometimes forget the girl has a smile or anything other than cargo pants and a dirt stained shirt.
So it was refreshing to see Lisa all decked out on the red carpet hob nobbing with the stars. But when it came time to interview Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts, Lisa came out swinging with some pretty lame questions. The Australian best friends looked stumped and had trouble coming up with an answer that didn’t make them look as stupid as the question they were asked. I’m not sure the audience really cares who took longer to get ready but, hey, at least you looked “purty”, Lisa.
