No fans who cry uncontrollably, no scathing remarks from judges, no Sanjaya type hair… basically, NO FUN!
That’s what China is enforcing when its version of American Idol hits the airwaves next month. “No weirdness, no vulgarity, no low taste,” the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said Friday in a notice to the producers of “Happy Boys Voice.
The talent show, to be broadcast beginning May 1, is a sequel to the hugely popular TV contest “Super Girls Voice” in 2005, which drew more than 400 million viewers (The US population is 300 million)! Needless to say Li Yuchun, the woman who won that contest became a popular singer in China.
Read on after the jump for a list of rules and restrictions that has taken all the fun out of China’s version of AI and made it into… well, an actual talent contest…

Why is there a pic of a two-faced piggy here instead of China’s most successful woman as voted by 0.0000002% of the country’s population. Weird.
Zhang Ziyi has been crowned China’s most successful woman, after 31,439 netizens voted for her in a national poll conducted by Sohu.com and fashion magazine “Bazaar”.
The voters say they voted for Zhang because of her successful acting career and growing reputation in the international film industry. They praised her for being smart, confident, independent and ambitious.
Actress Zhao Wei ran second in the poll. Most netizens think she transformed herself into a mature, intellectual modern woman after she returned to film school in 2006.

Known for her funky hairstyles, Li Yuchun is seen here sporting a new ‘panda’ look
Super girl Li Yuchun weighed in as China’s third most successful woman. Pop queen Faye Wong, hostess Yang Lan, model Lv Yan and actresses Maggie Cheung, Gong Li, Zhang Jingchu and Sun Li also ranked in the top 10. [CCTV]

Forbes released its lists of Chinese celebrity rankings, with NBA star Yao Ming coming first both on the income and social influence rankings.
Famous athlete Liu Xiang, the 110-meter hurdling world record holder, and blockbuster director Zhang Yimou were second and third on the list of social influence, while their incomes were fourth and sixth respectively.
It is noticeable that in the top 10 in social influence, other than those named above, all the others were females from showbiz.
Gong Li, with an income of nearly US$6m, is fifth both in terms of income and social influence. Her rise in social influence is due to her growing spotlight in Hollywood after starring in “Miami Vice” and “Hannibal Rising” in 2007. Zhang Ziyi is fourth in social influence after her performance in “Memoirs of a Geisha,” but her income dropped to 18th because she had no new releases in the past year due to her studies in the United States.
Rounding out the list are actress Zhou Xun at No. 6, Fan Bingbing at No. 7, singer Li Yuchun at No.8, director and actress Xu Jinglei at No. 9 and actress Carina Lau at No. 10.
It is astonishing to find Twelve Girls Band coming in second in income. They earned about US$18m, after performing 50 concerts on their world tour. However, their social influence was only 37th. [Cri]
