Actress Ko So-young has sued 35 netizens for libel through the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, accusing them of spreading false rumors about her private life through Internet message boards, cafes, and blogs.
“Some netizens have spread lies in cyberspace for several years, saying that I’m personally close to a particular person who I have never met,” Ko said through her lawyers.
“As an unmarried woman and a public entertainer, I felt shock and shame, but I refrained from direct response and instead asked the portal sites to delete the comments, hoping that the rumors would naturally be revealed to be false,” Ko said.
“But every time I was the subject of discussion, these lies were deliberately repeated and spread off-line. I have no choice but to sue the writers,” she continued.
South Korean transgender beauty Harisu, 32, tied the knot in Seoul Saturday with her boyfriend singer, 27-year-old rap singer Micky Chung, pledging to become a “sexy and caring” wife. She has been dating the singer since 2005 after they met online.
The marriage ceremony was carried out by Kim Suk-Kwon, a surgeon who performed Harisu’s male-to-female sex reassignment surgery.
“I’ll become a housewife who is cooking well, sexy and caring,” a beaming Harisu told journalists before the wedding ceremony. “We originally planned to adopt 10 children but decided to settle for only four kids because of the objections from our parents,” she said
In December 2002, the Incheon District Court recognized her as legally female and she changed her official name to Lee Kyung-Eun.
The Korean singer and actor Rain has a foot in the door in Hollywood after being cast in “Speed Racer,” the next film by the Wachowski brothers, who created “The Matrix.” Rain is to play a character who takes part in high-speed car races to secure his father’s company.
Rain’s manager claimed the K-pop star’s role “holds the key to the movie.” “Though it is a supporting role, Rain will manage the flow of the movie between the two main parts.” The character’s name has not been decided.
“Speed Racer” is based on the popular Japanese animation “Mach Go Go. Emile Hirsch, who starred in “The Girl Next Door,” is to play the hero Speed. Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Christina Ricci will also appear in supporting roles.
This seems like a no-brainer but clearly it’s a monumental event. Actress Song Hye-gyo will become the first Korean actress to appear on the June cover of the fashion magazine Vogue Korea. So putting a Korean woman on the cover of the Korean Vogue is history in the making….
Anyways….Song, whose new movie “Hwangjini” will open June 6, is shown in an alluring pose in the cover photo, wearing a traditional Korean wig with one of her shoulders revealed.
During the photo shoot, Song impressed the French production crew every time she appeared in a new traditional Korean costume. The photo shoot’s stylist and former fashion editor of Vogue France lauded the traditional Korean costume for its beautiful colors and the modernity of its layered design.
The June issue of Vogue Korea, including an 18-page photo spread of Song, will be published May 20 under the title “Hwangjini in Paris.” [KBS]
After several twists and turns, South Korean pop singer Rain has disappointed Chinese fans again. It’s been announced that the star’s scheduled Shanghai concert, is now suspended for the fourth time.
The problem? Technical problems. In order to ensure the audience enjoys a musical extravaganza, the stage production requires further work before the show can go ahead. For this reason they have decided to again postpone the concert.
“Xinmin Evening News” has already reported that the concert may have been canceled indefinitely.
The subsequent suspension of the May 20 concert has ignited complaints among his fans. Many have complained online on a popular forum, saying that although they haven’t paid for the concert yet, they have paid for tickets to travel to Shanghai to see the concert and now they have to cancel the trip and return the tickets. In May, CNN’s “Uncovering America” programming initiative continues with a focus on the Diaspora of Asians in America in observation of Asian American Heritage Month.
Yul Kwon, winner of the controversially racially-segregated Survivor – Season 13 will be a special guest correspondent for CNN. While he was on Survivor, Kwon often talked about challenges for Asians regarding race bias, particularly relating to images in the media and in corporate America.
He will report for CNN along those lines: on the changing portrayals of Asians in the media, the pressures many Asians feel to fulfill expectations for the so-called “model minority” stereotype, and the “bamboo ceiling” that some people feel keeps Asian Americans underrepresented in Corporate America.
This from the winner who stated outright that his intention was to use his Survivor money — in part — for Asian American philanthropic causes. This from the winner whose original reason for auditioning for Survivor was to combat negative stereotypes of Asian American men…. good on ya!!
Maxim Magazine came out with their annual list of the Hot 100 and the usual suspects came in the top 3 including Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Jessica Alba, Jessica Alba, and Scarlett Johansson. *Yawn*
Lucky for you, DaDump combed through all 100 to find the ones you care most about… unfortunately Hillary Clinton didn’t make it this year. The good news is that Lucy Liu also didn’t make the list which makes me think that someone over at Maxim actually did their research this year.
Here are two of the Hot 100… check out the other Asian beauties who made the list after the jump!
Xinmin Evening Post reports that a much anticipated live concert of South Korean singer Rain is scheduled to be held in Shanghai on May 20.
The concert has been planned since two years ago, but has met with various problems. Earlier this year, a Chinese performing company even filed a lawsuit against the star’s agency companies for failing to lay on the concert last March, citing Rain’s “tight schedule”.
The star’s South Korean agency then promised to set a clear date for a later Shanghai concert.
Before the concert, Rain is expected to hold a meeting with his fans in Shanghai. [Cri]
Kim Tae-hee is in a new commercial that’s rapidly becoming popular on the Internet where she shakes her booty for LG Electronics’ Shine TV Phone.
This is ‘news’ because it’s the first dance spot for Kim, who usually plays elegant and intellectual roles; not suggestive, sexy ones in ‘controversial’ phone advertisements.
It’s finally here. Check out the newest Amerie video, Take Control, featuring Korea’s pop sensation, Seven.
Amerie has always expressed an interest in recording with a Korean artist, the country where she was born. In fact, Amerie was such a fan of Seven that she personally chose him for the single.
Seven said, “With my American debut ahead of me, I’m so happy that I was able to work with a star like Amerie. I was given compliments on my vocals so I felt good.”
This should also help Seven gain greater exposure in the US market which he is in the process of also ‘taking control’ of.
So without further ado…
