Jolin Tsai Plays the Diva Role with Gusto

May 10th, 2007 by dd

Taiwan pop queen Jolin Tsai recently apologized through her agent for refusing to sing with fans in a TV show organised by China’s Central Television Station, CCTV.

During the recording of the show on April 30, Jolin Tsai was supposed to sing three songs, including “Today You Will Marry Me”, which she had performed with Taiwan singer David Tao at the 2007 CCTV Spring Festival Gala.

Jolin Tsai was asked by the director to sing with a fan picked from the audience, but she refused to do so, saying it was not written in her contract.

Enraged by her attitude, Director Sun Bin launched a fierce quarrel with the assistant of the star. The recording was stalled for several minutes.

Kissing 101: Asians Do It Better

January 10th, 2007 by dd

adojj Jolin Elva Kiss Jolin Tsai Elva Kiss

Last week two Singaporean singers, JJ Lin and A-Do, shared a smooch in the sixth and final leg of the ‘Just JJ World Tour‘ in Taipei. A same-sex lip lock shocked the audience, due more to its unexpectedness than its implications.

Do people really get worked up over Girl/ Girl or Boy/ Boy kisses anymore? It’s a bit ‘old hat’ by now and it’s not as if Asian audiences haven’t seen it before with Stefanie Sun and Jolin Tsai, Tanya Chua and Fish Leong, and in another variation, Stefanie and Fish. And in the US, Madonna and Britney Spears did it in front of millions of television viewers on that conservative little station, MTV.

According to the online site, Electric Singapore, JJ and A-do, who has been his regular concert guest star, had previously kissed each other on the cheeks or held hands in some of the other five shows, triggering reports and rumours about their sexuality.

Before this most recent kiss, however, A-do, 32, had teased: ‘I didn’t bring any presents, so shall I give (him) a French kiss?’ To which the 25-year-old singer songwriter egged A-do on, adding that ‘Jolin and Elva (Hsiao) kissed in the former’s concert, so shall we have a male version? I’ve never kissed a guy before!’

JJ then suggested the unthinkable stunt: ‘Let’s do it mouth to mouth.’ However, when A-do took a step forward, JJ stepped back immediately. He declared: ‘I must first clarify that we like girls.’

*YAWN* Listening to people talk about their intention to kiss is about as exciting as watching Bush trying to put a sentence together without stumbling like an idiot.

What was interesting was A-Do’s comment afterwards when he remarked, “’Kissing him is like kissing a little kid. It’s more like I sayang (Malay for ’showing affection’) him… Don’t worry, I’ll take responsibility!”.

Hello?! Who the hell kisses little kids on the mouth affectionately?! EWWWWW!!!

Sorry for that imagery. To help alleviate those images, I’ve included links that show other more appealing lip locks. The first is a “Kissing How To” for the kissing impaired.

‘Confession of Pain’ Lowdown

November 15th, 2006 by dd

confessionconfession2

The story: When his wealthy father-in-law is brutally murdered, veteran cop Hei (Tony Leung) calls upon his old pal, private detective Bong (Takeshi Kaneshiro), to help investigate the case.

Shockingly, all leads point to Hei’s wife (Xu Jinglei).

But when another murder takes place, Bong suspects that the killer is not who she or he seems to be.

The juice: Since the film was announced in July, the HK$80 million ($16m) Confession Of Pain has commanded media attention for its oh-so-gorgeous A-list cast, especially the elusive Takeshi.

Initially, talk was rife that Takeshi was given preferential treatment and paid more, which was rumoured to have upset Tony.

But all has turned out well.

The two leading men play protagonists who are scarred by painful memories - which explains the title.

Takeshi’s alcoholic character is a departure from his usual suave hero roles.

He drinks himself silly to forget the day he found his pregnant girlfriend lying dead in a pool of blood from her slashed wrists.

Tony’s character’s pain, however, is bottled up and he hides it well.
