Some of your favorite stars came out last night to celebrate the inaugural Asian Film Awards as part of the Hong Kong International Film Festival. A touch of glam, high voltage Asian/ International star power, a “Host” who won the hearts of the real HK hosts, and some much needed fun. Who do you think made DD’s Best Dressed?

Fan Bingbing May Be the Next Big Thing … But at What Cost?

March 8th, 2007 by dd

fanbingbing3 0101

Defintion of “Bada Bing, Bada Boom” from the Urban Dictionary:
mainly used as an expression for a very good looking person.

Example: Tony Soprano sees a drop-dead gorgeous female… this would be his cue to say “Bada Bing, Bada Boom!” … or in this case Fan Bada Bingbing, Bada Boomboom.

So is actress Bada Bing Bing set to replace Zhang Ziyi as the next big thing out of China? That’s yet to be seen and far less interesting at the moment than how she got to where she is.

According to a recent Cityweekend report, Fan’s talents may lie outside of her on-screen roles. As beautiful as she is, her sudden rise to popularity has sparked less than flattering gossip. The rumor mill has been abound with chatter of her past dalliances with strategic partners in the entertainment industry, perhaps a nip/ tuck to enhance her on-screen look, and some behind the scenes diva like political maneuvering.

If you’re a Fan of the Bada Bing Bing, you have to read the salacious details and be dazzled by larger versions of the picture gallery after the jump!

Yao Ming Stands Tallest in Forbes’ China Celebrity Rankings

March 6th, 2007 by dd

yaomingtagheuer

Forbes released its lists of Chinese celebrity rankings, with NBA star Yao Ming coming first both on the income and social influence rankings.

Famous athlete Liu Xiang, the 110-meter hurdling world record holder, and blockbuster director Zhang Yimou were second and third on the list of social influence, while their incomes were fourth and sixth respectively.
It is noticeable that in the top 10 in social influence, other than those named above, all the others were females from showbiz.

Gong Li, with an income of nearly US$6m, is fifth both in terms of income and social influence. Her rise in social influence is due to her growing spotlight in Hollywood after starring in “Miami Vice” and “Hannibal Rising” in 2007. Zhang Ziyi is fourth in social influence after her performance in “Memoirs of a Geisha,” but her income dropped to 18th because she had no new releases in the past year due to her studies in the United States.

Rounding out the list are actress Zhou Xun at No. 6, Fan Bingbing at No. 7, singer Li Yuchun at No.8, director and actress Xu Jinglei at No. 9 and actress Carina Lau at No. 10.

It is astonishing to find Twelve Girls Band coming in second in income. They earned about US$18m, after performing 50 concerts on their world tour. However, their social influence was only 37th. [Cri]
