Newlyweds Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar could face three years in jail after being accused of breaching Hindu customs with their Indian wedding last month.
Vishnu Khandelwal–who has never met the couple–has begun legal proceedings against the newly married pair insisting they broke with Hindu law. And he claims Arun’s father, Vinod Nayar, has offered to testify against his son and daughter-in-law.
The pair have been disowned by Nayar Sr. after he claimed he and his second wife Joanne were made to feel like “second class citizens” at the ceremony.

Not so filial son
Nobody said meeting the parents was ever easy but getting disowned by them right after your lavish, highly public wedding… well, that can’t be a good sign. Sadly, that’s exactly what is happening to Arun Nayer and Liz Hurley.
Vinod Nayar, Arun’s father, says he wants to have nothing to do with his son Arun and Hurley after he and other members of the family were treated like “second-class citizens” at the nuptials.
Mr Nayar also revealed that an unseemly wrestling match broke out at the height of the Hindu ceremony in Jodhpur, resulting in him being kicked out of his own son’s wedding.
The intensely private textiles magnate claims he is so upset he has no option but to speak out.
He slammed Hurley for the stage-managed wedding, sold to Hello! magazine for a staggering $5 million.
“My wife Joanne and I feel we were publicly humiliated and treated like social outcasts for the sake of a Hello! magazine deal,” the 66-year-old told Britain’s Mail on Sunday newspaper.
“Liz and Arun have treated us very shabbily. My heart is heavy with pain.”

Lots more dancing expected in their futures!
Two of Bollywood’s top stars - Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan - will wed next month, but the marriage celebrations are likely to be low-key since Bachchan’s grandmother is unwell according to news reports.
Rai, a former Miss World, and Bachchan, son of Hindi film icon Amitabh Bachchan, were engaged at a private ceremony in January.
The wedding is expected to take place on April 20 at the Bachchan residence in India’s entertainment capital of Mumbai.
“The families met and the decision was taken yesterday. The wedding will be a small private affair with only close family and friends in attendance.”
Unlike the recent Liz Hurley-Arun Nayar wedding, where the paparazzi went berserk, the Abhi-Ash marriage will be a very private affair at the Bachchans’ home Prateeksha in Juhu.

Nature, Shmae-ture… we’re in luuuuuv. F- the environment! Doo-dah, doo-dahhh…
Newlywed Liz Hurley was slammed by green campaigners yesterday after her week-long wedding produced more carbon emissions than the average couple do in a DECADE.
The 41-year-old model married Arun Nayar at Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire before jetting off to India with 24 guests for six days of partying in three different cities.
Their nuptials released a massive 200 tonnes - 200,000kg - of carbon into the atmosphere, according to environment consultants Best Foot Forward.
It would take an Indian couple 123 years to cause similar ecological damage. [Mirror]
OK, truth be told, DD just wanted an excuse to use the words ‘carbon footprint’ in a posting. It’s a trendy term, it’s obscure, it’s too cool for school, baby!

Bedazzled!

Liz Hurley and husband, Arun Nayar’s recent continent hopping nuptials was a quaint warm-up to what Indians around the world are truly waiting for - perhaps be the greatest marriage in India’s modern history. Mark your calendars for March 19 for a true Bollywood fairytale between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.
“With a guest list expected to exceed 5,000, helicopters hired to shower petals over the reception and the astrological charts finally predicting a union that is truly blessed, the marriage of the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and Bollywood leading man Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Asia’s most famous actor Amitabh Bachchan is expected to happen within a month,” the Observer reported.
The wedding celebration will be spread out over 10 days in a private estate on the outskirts of Mumbai and a palace in Rajasthan. The royal affair is being touted as a ‘Bollywood fairytale’ and India’s answer to the coupling of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
“For Indians across the world this wedding will be as big as Prince Charles and Diana’s was for the British”, says Bollywood columnist Amita Ghosh.
“The question people are asking right now is: why all the fuss about Liz Hurley? Perhaps this is why the media in India have turned against Liz, nobody really knows who she is. Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are our real stars and their wedding is the only one that counts,” Ghosh said. [IBN]

Bride Elizabeth Hurley greets Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty
Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar’s Indian wedding celebrations were marred on March 9th, when a fight broke out between reporters and security guards.
The scuffle kicked off when journalists tried to prevent the couple’s car entering the Mekrangarh fort venue in Jodhpur following their nearby marriage ceremony.
Reporters then allegedly ran past security and followed Hurley and Nayar’s vehicle into the compound, before forcibly being removed. During the fracas, onlookers claim a security guard slapped a female journalist while another female reporter is said to have slapped one of the guards.

Elizabeth Hurley has secretly married Indian businessman Arun Nayar and the couple were preparing to host a lavish wedding party today at an English castle.
Hurley, 41, and Nayar, 42, married on Friday in a civil ceremony in western England at Sudeley Castle, where celebrity guests were gathering for the party on Saturday, a local government spokeswoman said.
“We can confirm a marriage took place in a private ceremony,” a Gloucestershire county council spokeswoman told Reuters.
Reverend John Partington told the Daily Mirror newspaper he would bless the couple later on Saturday at Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, describing his blessing as “a celebration of their wedding.”
Situated in the picturesque Cotswolds, the castle is owned by the family of Henry Dent-Brocklehurst, who is a close friend of Hurley.
Patsy Kensit, singer Sir Elton John, fashion designer Donatella Versace as well as Hurley’s former lover, British actor Hugh Grant, were expected to attend the party.
Hurley’s 13-year relationship with Hollywood star Grant ended in 2000 after his well-publicized encounter with a prostitute.
Two years later, she had a son with US film producer Steve Bing. She met Nayar, who has celebrity status himself, shortly after her child was born.
The Daily Mirror said the couple will travel to Rajasthan on Sunday for a traditional Indian-style wedding. [Stuff.co.nz]
