NBA All-Star Yao Ming and actor Pu Cunxin will be appearing in 200,000 posters all over China soon in an AIDS awareness campaign entitled “We Are Friends,” launched by the United Nations Development Program. After years of denying that AIDS was a problem, Chinese leaders have shifted gears dramatically in recent years, confronting the disease more openly and promising anonymous testing, free treatment for the poor and a ban on discrimination against people with the virus. After years of denying that AIDS was a problem, Chinese leaders have shifted gears dramatically in recent years, confronting the disease more openly and promising anonymous testing, free treatment for the poor and a ban on discrimination against people with the virus.
Definitely a big step in the right direction to really start addressing the problem and to actually make an effort to stop stigmatizing people afflicted with the disease. Let’s hope it helps.

Chinese pirates are claiming they have the coveted movie a week ahead of the “Spider-Man 3″ launch — even though they haven’t sold actual pirated copies of the film.
Reuters is reporting that street vendors were already selling DVDs with “Spider-Man 3″ cover art for just over $1 each, even though the disc didn’t work subsequently on a DVD player.
But have no fear, DaDump is here to save the day! I’m off to see Spidey and friends tomorrow at some Hong Kong charity premiere with a digital video cam, a tripod, and my wireless Mac in tow. If they won’t let me in with my gear, then you’re out of luck since my Crackberry doesn’t have a camera on it. Worse case scenario is I’ll just ruin the ending for everyone… I’m pretty sure they all die at the end.
Thus far, the only showings of the pic have come at heavily monitored premieres, which started April 16 in Tokyo. “Spider-Man 3″ will open next Tuesday in China, France, Italy, Japan and South Korea — ahead of the domestic US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in Queens, New York.

DaDump back from another night of debauchery… attended a launch for Jackie Chan’s son, Jaycee Chan’s event party of … mints. You’re rolling your eyes and believe you me, DD was also. But I’ve gotta say, these aren’t bad. They’re called RIO and they come in an assortment of smart tin containers with cool slide dispensing mechanisms. Flavors are varied with names such as Guranana & Berries, Burgundy Grape, Lemongrass & Ginseng… all of which are sugarfree (the Grape one is surprisingly tasty). DaDump sounds like a lame commercial so onto the nitty gritty….
The event was held at Dragon-i in Hong Kong. The door bitch who was a guy was a bitch even though DD was “cordially” invited and had RSVP’d… he clearly doesn’t read DailyDumpling.com. Anyways, Jaycee was in a preppy outfit and in full P.R. mode doing interviews galore and taking photos in front of the standard wall of signatures which is so common in Asia. Isabella, the singer/ actress, looked dashing, much better in person than in photograph. Justin Lo, the ABC/ Hongkie emerging CantoPopStar, is a lot less tall than the models who peppered the club but was represntin’ NYC in a camaflouge Yankees cap- WOOT WOOT!
Let’s just say that Jaycee pulled in a crowd. DaDump woulda taken snaps but that woulda been a breach of etiquette. I’ll leave that for amateurs like Perez to pimp his access for lesser gains and glory. Respect is how we roll here in the “Orient”. Needless to say, good times had by all, DaDump is DaDrunk and headed beddy bye…
Will waste time in the a.m. posting more DaGlorious news from Asia and beyond for all ya voyeurs out there.

Lucy Liu is getting’ her groove back, folks. She’s been working the past few years but in smaller, under the radar roles and films - but not anymore. She’s in full swing on the big screen with Rise, a vampire flic with blood, gore, and lesbian sexual escapades – woo hoo! She’s also leading the pack on the Sex and the City creator’s next small screen venture, Cashmere Mafia.
As seen here, Lucy, aka Freckles, is working Park Avenue in her power red, ultra chic get-up. Not only is this her return to TV but it’s also a return of sorts to her hometown of New Yawk where she grew up. Smart girl. She went to Stuyvesant H.S., the alma mater of DaDump. I could lie and say we dated but the reality is we just did calculus problem sets together. Sadly she went on to have a career in Hollywood and here I am griping about it…Either way good to have you back in the Big Apple, LL!

Young Chinese actress Liu Yifei has signed with William Morris Agency, a top American talent agency. So basically, Liu is now a ‘playah’ in the game.
She follows in the footsteps of WMA’s other high profile China talent, Zhang Ziyi, who signed in 2005 and soon thereafter landed the lead role in Memoirs of a Geisha.
So what coveted ‘gift’ is Liu Yifei receiving for signing? Speculation is she’s landed a lead role in the upcoming The Forbidden Kingdom, which starring none other than Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
DaDump is guessing that Grace Chen who heads William Morris China wined and dined and used her immeasurable charm to lure Liu Yifei for her traditional Chinese beauty and limitless potential as an international film star.
… and if things go awry, Grace can always soothe bruised egos by “huggin’ it out”.

Not since the Beatles crossed the Atlantic on Pan Am flight 101 in 1964 has a nation been caught up with such anticipation, frenzy, hope! The time has finally arrived as the two giant pandas that were a gift from China to celebrate the 10th anniversary since the Handover from British colonial rule arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon.
OK, DaDump has a penchant for exaggeration but these two are celebrities in their own right.
The pandas, who must remain quarantined for 30 days (how’s that for star treatment), were given new names at the airport: Ying Ying, who is female, and her male consort, Le Le. Their names were picked in a public contest that drew thousands of entries and combined mean “happiness” in Chinese.
The animals didn’t have much time to enjoy their new home before they were reminded that they were under pressure to produce many little pandas.
Gotta feel bad for these two. The pressure to perform under the spotlight in public 24/7 with a billion pairs of eyes watching you- judging you!… you try feeling romantic under those circumstances!

Zhou Xun is an actress you may or may not have heard about. She’s won numerous accolades and been in a number of high profile films in China and Hong Kong.
So it’s no great surprise to see her in the press for her fashion follies and hits and being hounded constantly about her relationship with her Taiwanese image stylist boyfriend, LiDaqi. Despite rumors about her having secretly married Daqi, she refused to discuss marriage plans.
She was previously with actor Li Yapeng before he married Hong Kong pop diva Faye Wong, a development that reportedly left her deeply hurt and depressed for two years.
Since then, she’s recovered quite nicely and will be seen next in Ming Ming, a movie DaDump will actually pay to see on screen versus off a pirated DVD.
To learn more about this inspiring up and coming actress, continue reading after the jump!

Modelling agency Starz People has issued a writ against model Ankie Beilke and her manager-mum Ankie Lau heung-ping (how many mom/ daughters do you know who have the same first name?) alleging they have breached a contract the agency arranged on behalf of Bella Skin Care.
According to Starz’s Stephen Chau, “Up to now, Ankie has done some photo shoots and attended some PR events, but she decided that she would not do any more promotion. Both my company and my client are very frustrated about that.”
When asked to comment, Lau, speaking for her daughter, explained, “We didn’t sign any contracts, not with Starz nor for this job.”
Ankie, the daughter this time, hinted the problem may be money-related, “I haven’t received a penny [for her promotion work for Bella].”
Maybe she’s just embarrassed or upset at the less than flattering print campaign which talked openly about her unsightly thick arm hairs. [SCMP] (Thx for the pic, Vixen!)

Angelina Jolie has made a formal court request to change adopted son Pax Thien’s surname to Jolie-Pitt.
Angelina filed the request for her son, who is currently called Pax Thien Jolie, to take lover Brad Pitt’s surname at a Santa Monica Superior Court on April 16.
Angelina adopted three-year-old Pax - whose name means ‘Peaceful Sky’ - in March from a Vietnamese Orphanage she had visited with Brad several times before.
Vietnamese law makes it hard for unmarried couples to adopt, so the actress applied as a single parent.
In January 2006, Angelina made a similar request to add Brad’s name to her five-year-old Cambodian son Maddox and two-year-old Ethiopian daughter Zahara.
Brad is now joint guardian to Maddox and Zahara and the couple also have an 11-month-old daughter Shiloh together.
