The movie started production in China in December and is set for an end of the year release. It marks the 70th anniversary of the eight-week rape and slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people in the ancient capital of Nanjing as Japan battled to conquer China.
Chang documented the horror in her acclaimed bestselling book, The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II, in 1997.
Not the lightest of subjects but prior to this role, Olivia was a journalist. DD has taken it upon himself to inject some comic relief so that this news/ issue doesn’t ruin your weekend. CLICK HERE to see her get the shock of her life in a demonstration of utter commitment or stupidity!

Who’s the coolest pop star riding the Korea waves right now? Rain, of course, if the hordes of screaming girls who rush to every one of his public appearance are anything to go by. It’s hard to believe that he was rejected at auditions because he was “not handsome enough, although his dance was great”.
Rain, born Jung Ji-hoon and nicknamed the “Asian Usher”, is having the last laugh. Not only has he conquered the concert halls and television audiences from Thailand to Taiwan, the 24-year old has now turned his attention to the big screen, making his debut in Park Chan-wook’s I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK.
Rain’s role, a quirky character in a lunatic asylum who falls in love with another inmate (Lim Soo-jung) who thinks he’s a cyborg, is a big departure from his suave image on stage. Although the film hasn’t been the big hit he had hoped for in South Korea, the chance of pursuing something different drew him to the project. “I haven’t thought too much about the box office and whether it will make big money. I just wanted to have a good experience on my debut in movie-making,”, says Rain, who has been scouted by Hollywood, although he refuses to reveal any details. “I picked this movie because Park is a famous director and I thought I could learn a lot from him.”
Having conquered Asia, Rain set his sights on the US and became the first Asian to perform at New York’s Madison Square Garden, in February last year. His two sell-out shows put him on the map. He was also named one of the most influential artists of 2006 by TIME magazine.

The Dumpling supports a well rounded lifestyle. Work Hard, Play Hard… Sound Mind, Sound Body, yadda yadda yadda. So in addition to US Weekly, Hello!, Apple Daily (HK Newspaper), and DailyDumpling.com, of course, you should include something without any pictures in it that might actually be intellectually stimulating. To that end, DD is throwing down the gauntlet and challenging Oprah for Book Club dominance. Oh yeah, it’s on, Big O!…
DaDump is recommending anything and everything written by Japanese author Haruki Murakami. His most recent collection of short stories recently won the Kiriyama Prize, an award dedicated “to recognize outstanding books about the Pacific Rim and South Asia that encourage greater mutual understanding of and among the peoples and nations of this vast and culturally diverse region.”
DaDump was serendipitously introduced to him by Int’l Gum Girl, a gamine with big eyes, an attitude, and a penchant for randomness… but I digress. Just know that Murakami’s stories can be as surreal and random as yours truly.
So pick up a copy of anything Murakami (Norwegian Wood is a good starter novel), impress your friends, and thank me later. You can read more about his most recent prize after the jump!

Lots more dancing expected in their futures!
Two of Bollywood’s top stars - Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan - will wed next month, but the marriage celebrations are likely to be low-key since Bachchan’s grandmother is unwell according to news reports.
Rai, a former Miss World, and Bachchan, son of Hindi film icon Amitabh Bachchan, were engaged at a private ceremony in January.
The wedding is expected to take place on April 20 at the Bachchan residence in India’s entertainment capital of Mumbai.
“The families met and the decision was taken yesterday. The wedding will be a small private affair with only close family and friends in attendance.”
Unlike the recent Liz Hurley-Arun Nayar wedding, where the paparazzi went berserk, the Abhi-Ash marriage will be a very private affair at the Bachchans’ home Prateeksha in Juhu.

Yang Lijuan poses with Andy Lau prior to her father’s tragic suicide
A father whose daughter has been obsessed with pop star Andy Lau for 13 years committed suicide in Hong Kong one day after he managed to help his daughter meet her idol.
The 68-year old father was a retired middle school teacher earning a pension of 1900 yuan per month (~US$230) while the mother was unable to work due to her poor health. They had even sold their only apartment in order for them to afford a trip to Hong Kong.
Yang Lijuan, the daughter, finally met Lau this past week after the family traveled from their home in China’s Lanzhou city. The daughter joined Lau’s fan club and took some pictures with the star on Sunday, but the father still felt unhappy with the meeting. He complained that Lau should have spent more private time and with his daughter, and then threatened his life if the star didn’t.

Actress Michelle Yeoh, 44, who is engaged to Ferrari motor-racing team boss Jean Todt, 61, is planning wedding banquets in Italy, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Sporting a diamond ring on her right ring finger, the former Miss Malaysia told reporters, “Actually, you have seen this ring a few times.”
She said Todt, who is French and has a Ferrari racing manager son, had popped the question and added, “The date hasn’t been set but it should be soon.”
She said she would start preparing for her nuptials after wrapping up her latest Hollywood film, Babylon A.D.
This will be her second marriage. Her first, to Hong Kong tycoon Dickson Poon, ended in divorce after three years in 1991.
It was her ex-boyfriend Thomas Chung, a Hong Kong movie producer, who introduced her to Todt in June 2004. Three months later, Todt announced that they were engaged but Yeoh denied it the next day.
Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily said she accepted his proposal just months ago. [Sinchew]
